The Gift of Dyslexia

What is Dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a difference in learning style and thinking style that can cause confusion when dealing with symbols. Dyslexia is not the result of a genetic flaw - or brain, eye, or ear malfunction as once believed. Nor is it only related to letter reversals and reading difficulties. It encompasses a much larger umbrella of characteristics. Common struggles linked to the dyslexic mind include: slow reading, substituting words, guessing at words, writing difficulties, hearing problems, rereading over and over, inconsistency, extreme concentration, sounding out each work, memorizing rather than understanding, avoiding reading, rearranging letters and words, headaches from reading or math, spelling difficulty, ADD, ADHD, coordination, poor sense of direction, executive functioning.
